Hey Friends! I’m sorry for being absent for so long. I’ve decided to share a part of chapter 4 with you since you’ve been so patient. 😉

Neither Steven nor Susan said anything further about the subject on their walk back to the car, or on their way to Susan’s home. The sound of traffic occasionally broke through the silence between them, arousing an appraisal of their surroundings. Upon arrival to their destination, Susan looked at Steven sharply and inquired if he was seeing anyone else. Steven assured her that he had not dated anyone since Mercedes. She then asked, “Would you like to come up and have a night cap with me? She opened the door to exit the car, but waited for an answer.  “I’m sorry, but I think it would be best if I just went home early.”

“I can’t stand thinking that I ruined our date for insisting that we see that nerve wrecking fortune teller. I don’t think I’ll be able to sleep tonight. Will you forgive me for my impertinence?” she said. “There is absolutely nothing to forgive, I assure you.” She kissed my cheek, then stepped out of the car and closed the door.  Our eyes met through the glare of the window as we waved goodbye.

Upon arrival at my house, I went into the kitchen to pour myself a stiff drink and found the bottle of Chivas Regal that I was thinking about. I withdrew a cocktail glass from the cupboard and filled it with ice cubes, then added the scotch and a splash of water to it. I decided to take a seat in the den on the brown leather armchair near the fireplace. This was my usual reading place, but tonight I had no intention of reading. I felt like sinking into my thoughts to contemplate what had transpired this evening after having met the mystical Madame Ruth, trying to interpret the cards, and discern some meaning from the prediction.

Did she mean the person standing between Susan and I was Mercedes? Of course it had to mean that, there was no other logical explanation for it. And what of it does she mean? Was she inferring that Mercedes was the barrier in the past? How could she be a barrier in the future? That is not a logical conclusion. Thus, perhaps what the mystic meant was that Mercedes was a barrier in the past and still is a barrier in the present because I am still in love with her. That, to me, sounds a logical and lucid explanation. So, it seems that there are only two options to the card reading. And since the past is true, the present must also be true. Will I be able to let go of Mercedes, or at least make room for Susan?

While I sat there lost in my thoughts, I had failed to notice that the room had darkened significantly. There was only a faint, distant flow of light from the moon passing through the window panes, a shaft of white light beamed strongly across a petite, feminine figure. I could scarcely make out that she was presently standing near the fireplace. The light illuminated her silhouette, slowly revealing her slim waist, illuminating the shadow of her breasts, and escalating upwards onto the contour of her pale white throat and feminine chin. The light crept onwards to expose her two seducing lips. I could now see her amorous eyes and knew at once that it was Mercedes.

I hope you enjoyed it. Cheers!
